Kantara is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language action thriller film written and directed by Rishab Shetty. The movie is set in coastal Karnataka and revolves around the conflict between man and nature, as well as the struggles of the local villagers against the encroachment of forest land by feudal lords. The film is divided into three timelines, spanning from the 18th century to the 1990s. The story begins with a king donating a vast portion of his land to the local villagers in exchange for a holy stone, which is believed to bring prosperity and protection to the community. Over time, the villagers develop a deep connection with the land and its mythology, including the worship of Daiva, a demigod protector of the forest.
