In a dystopian future, humanity is unknowingly trapped within a simulated reality called the Matrix. Created by intelligent machines, the Matrix is a complex web of code that has been designed to distract humans while their bodies are harvested for energy. The story follows Thomas A. Anderson (Keanu Reeves), a computer hacker who goes by the alias Neo. Neo feels a sense of disconnection and dissatisfaction with his mundane life, and he begins to question the nature of reality. Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), a member of a group of rebels, contacts Neo and reveals the truth about the Matrix. Morpheus explains that the world as we know it is an illusion, and that humans are unknowingly trapped within the simulated reality.
